North West 200 News, Races

The Merrow Hotel and Spa, which recently secured planning approval from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, has announced its sponsorship of the main feature race of the Vauxhall International North West 200, the Superbike Race.

Last year’s feature race saw a titanic battle between Alastair Seeley, Ian Hutchinson and eventual winner, Glenn Irwin. The thrilling encounter was voted the 2017 Race of the Year in the recent Cornmarket Irish Motorcyclist of the Year awards.

Donna and Mark Donnelly from the Merrow Hotel and Spa complex joined NW200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte MBE, to announce the sponsorship deal for the seven lap race which will bring the curtain down on a week of action around the 8.9 mile Triangle circuit on May 13-19.

“The Merrow Hotel and Spa is delighted to sponsor this year’s Superbike Race at the North West 200. The complex was granted planning permission in January and we are now entering the stage where groundworks are due to start.  We hope to provide the North West 200 with a unique opportunity to create a constant presence at its true home on the North Coast as well as providing much needed leisure and hospitality services in the area.” Mark Donnelly said.

When works are finished the Merrow Hotel and Spa complex will provide 118 rooms, a luxury spa with sea views, a leisure club with a 20m pool, a glass sauna and infinity pool, a steam room, a gym and studio, a demonstration restaurant, a bar/bistro restaurant, a signature cocktail bar, a conference space, meeting rooms, nine chalets serviced by the hotel and of course, the North West 200 offices.

“These are exciting times for the International North West 200 and we are delighted the Merrow Hotel and Spa has become our feature race sponsor. The North West 200 has played an important role in the economy of the North Coast region, particularly in attracting visitors to the area. Our association with the Merrow Hotel and Spa complex will help strengthen that relationship and provide the race with a new home as we approach our 90th anniversary.” North West 200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte, MBE, said

The £20 million, four star, luxurious complex, which will be operated by leading hotel management company, Interstate Europe Hotels & Resorts, will be located on Ballyreagh Road, Portstewart, adjacent to the start and finish line of the world renowned International NW200.   It will also become the official home of the North West 200, with the event offices located within the grounds.
