Bikesafe in Northern Ireland has joined forces with BMW Motorrad and Kawasaki to promote road safety and road user awareness at this year’s International North West 200. The initiative which is operated by Police Services across the UK with support from industry partners, is aimed at reducing the number of motorcycle related casualties.

BMW Motorrad and Kawasaki have provided product support and accommodation for Bikesafe in the North West’s busy paddock area and spectators are encouraged to visit the Bikesafe stand and pick up information on bike safety. Bikers are urged to take up Bikesafe’s free rider skills assessment conducted by an advanced police motorcyclist and those who gain their certificate can also take advantage of cheaper insurance from Adelaide Insurance Services.

In addition to encouraging North West 200 teams, riders and media to highlight road safety issues, the PSNI Bikesafe team have secured six BMW K1300s bikes courtesy of BMW Motorrad each branded in full Bikesafe livery, to help highlight the road safety message. North West 200 travelling marshals will also be using the BMW K1300s during Race Week.

Bikesafe co-ordinator and a member of the NW200 travelling marshall team, Constable Bill Holden said, “We all want spectators and bikers to enjoy this world class racing event and stay safe on our roads, so that’s why we’re encouraging bikers to leave the speed and racing to the professionals.

“This week we’ll be offering motorcyclists free Bikesafe assessed Ride-outs and will be maintaining a highly visible Police presence during and following the event to ensure everyone’s safety.”
