Race fans have voted the 2017 Vauxhall International North West feature superbike race the ‘Race of the Year’ at the Cornmarket Irish Motorcyclist of the Year awards.

The epic encounter that came down to a last lap battle between eventual victor, Glenn Irwin (PBM/Be Wiser Ducati)  and Alastair Seeley (Tyco BMW) caught the imagination of everyone who witnessed it, with a massive 70% of the votes cast being claimed by the North West 200 race.

Irwin sportingly called Seeley on to the stage to accept the award with NW200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte from Paul McLean of Bet McLean bookmakers.

“Days like that are why we go racing.” Irwin smiled as the Carrickfergus duo promised a rerun of their battle this May.

“This is a great accolade for the Vauxhall International North West 200.” Whyte added.

“A massive thanks to every one of those fans who supported us with their votes and to all of the competitors who took part in one of the most memorable races on the famous Triangle circuit.”
