The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council, Councillor Steven Callaghan and Councillor Margaret-Anne McKillop plus Sara Adair, Garry Cardwell and Event Manager, Gareth Fall from the Council’s Event team met NW200 racer Ian Hutchinson during a recent visit to the Briggs Equipment North West 200 paddock last week as it was announced that the races will receive financial support from the Council’s Tourism Event Funding Programme.

As the largest annual sporting event in Ireland, the NW200 is one of the area’s most beneficial events, the races assists Council in achieving the aims of its Destination Management Plan via increased visitor numbers, more bed nights and greater spend.

“We are delighted the Briggs Equipment North West 200 is one of ten recipients of this year’s Tourism Events Fund.” Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said in a statement.

“Due to a successful application process, the Council is pleased to provide continued support to the event organisers. The Tourism Event Fund assists with event delivery, sustainability and skills retention within the organisation, as well as support events to future proof the event. The NW200 generates huge economic and social benefits for our Borough, attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year and generating millions of pounds for our local economy.”

“Causeway Coast and Glens Council have been a partner with the NW200 for a long time now and we are fortunate to call this Borough our home.” race boss, Mervyn Whyte, said.  “The NW200 compliments the world-renowned tourism destination of the Causeway Coast as a major attraction for visitors from all over the world.  Council’s support helps us stage the races and we work with them all year round to bring this great event to the fans.”
