IRWIN TO TARGET BRIGGS EQUIPMENT NORTH WEST 200 SUPERBIKE RECORD ON PBM DUCATI.

North West 200 News

Glenn Irwin has made no secret of his hopes of becoming the most successful racer on
Superbike machinery at the Briggs Equipment North West 200. Just hours after the PBM
Ducati squad confirmed their commitment to this year’s British Superbike championship
with the Northern Ireland racer, the team owners, Jordan and Frank Bird, announced that
Irwin will race a V4RR Superbike in their colours during the launch of this year’s Briggs
Equipment North West 200 on May 6-11.
The 33 year old Carrickfergus rider has won the last eight premier class races around the 8.9
circuit Northern Ireland roads course, one shy of the nine victories shared by Michael Rutter
and the late, Joey Dunlop at the event. With the organisers adding a new Superbike race to
the Thursday evening programme this year, Irwin will have three opportunities to claim a
new record.
“I have to pinch myself that I am close to the same number of Superbike wins as my
favourite British Superbike racer ever, Michael Rutter and Joey Dunlop who I grew up
idolising.” Irwin said.
“But records are there to be broken and I would love to do it. And I want to go on and win
11, 12 and more.
Paul Bird, the former owner of the PBM squad who passed away last year was a staunch
supporter of the north coast road races. Paul’s daughter, Jordan signalled the team’s
continuing commitment to the event as they unveiled the V4RR Ducati that Irwin will race in
May during the launch of this year’s races in Coleraine on Wednesday evening.
