Statement from Mervyn Whyte, North West 200, and solicitor, Marie Hans of WP Tweed & Co., following the conclusion of legal action taken by Mr Whyte against Hugh Murphy with regard to comments Mr Murphy published on social media during 2023.

“Our client has successfully obtained judgment in his favour in a claim for defamation against Mr Murphy.’ Marie Hans of WP Tweed & Co said.

‘This action arose out of a gross and unwarranted attack on Mr Whyte’s personal and professional integrity via social media. We are pleased that this judgment restores our client’s reputation as a faithful and honest servant of the North West 200.’

‘I am very pleased the court has recognised the harm done to my reputation and through this judgement has vindicated me and my good name.’ Mr Whyte said.

‘Mr Murphy’s attack on me was completely unwarranted and devoid of a scintilla of truth. It is unfortunate I had to seek the assistance of the court in this matter but I am relieved and delighted with the outcome at this stage of the proceedings.’
